EWG Verified® Clean Skincare

EWG Verified® means a product meets the Environmental Working Group’s strictest standards for health, ingredient safety, and transparency. Products must avoid ingredients of concern that may cause allergies, cancer, development and reproductive toxins and other health risk as well as fully disclose fragrances, and meet rigorous manufacturing and labelling requirements.

EWG Verified® is considered among the safest beauty standards available world wide, as products are screened against thousands of chemicals linked to health or environmental risks. Verification goes beyond basic regulatory compliance to prioritise long-term health and safety.

The EWG Skin Deep® Database is an online resource that rates personal care products and ingredients based on potential health concerns, toxicity data, and regulatory status. It helps consumers better understand what’s in their beauty products.

EWG rates products on a numerical scale from the lowest rating of EWG-verified products, 1 (low hazard) to 10 (high hazard - high health concern for causing cancer, reproductive toxins, allergies and more). Ratings are based on ingredient toxicity, cancer risk, allergen potential, and environmental impact — not product performance or efficacy.

EWG Verified® certification is voluntary, rigorous, and resource-intensive. As a result, many products marketed as “clean” do not meet EWG’s safety thresholds or provide full ingredient transparency.

At BAMBII, we apply our own independent standards — among the most stringent globally — when assessing ingredient safety and formulation integrity. Products verified by BAMBII are therefore considered clean under our framework, even where third-party certification may not be present.

By contrast, many retail “clean edits” rely on loosely defined criteria that fall well short of both EWG and BAMBII standards, with some products still scoring in higher-risk categories within the EWG Skin Deep® database.

Yes. Some safe products may not pursue certification. However, EWG Verified® provides an added layer of third-party assurance that a product meets stringent safety and transparency benchmarks.
